Hi, I’m Tyra a Certified Life Coach and Christian Coaching Specialist. I received my certification through the Institute for Life Coach Training. I am also an ACC (Associate Certified Coach) through the International Coaching Federation. I have a BS in Consumer and Family Sciences with a concentration in Family Studies and a minor in Psychology.
The Story: Why I became a life coach…
I began my life coaching journey several years ago after I graduated college. I minored in Psychology and considered becoming a counselor or getting a Master’s Degree in Social Work. I never felt called to pursue either one for various reasons. However, when I learned life coaching was all about partnering with others to design their future rather than discuss their past- I realized why the others never quite fit.
A life coach partners with a client to help them define and achieve their goals, visions and purposes. This fit with what I am passionate about; helping others to live an extraordinary life.
So, I began my journey of becoming a Certified Life Coach and Christian Coaching Specialist. The reason I say journey is because this was not a point A to point B task for me. Life coaching turned out to be so much more. One of the first activities we did in life coach training was a values assessment where I narrowed my life values down to 4 from about 75 options. Finding out what my true values are- God’s will, honesty, health and authenticity helped me to realize what had always been inside of me.
Defining these values, some of them for the first time, led me to the mission field where I helped a missionary family of 9 move their life and family from middle Tennessee to Uganda, Africa. Going to Africa and staying there six months, as well as returning home, were defining moments in my life. I am not sure I would have been able to make such a journey without having a life coach.
When I returned home from Africa I was even more eager to continue my life coach training. While continuing life coaching courses, I was hired at a ministry for young women with life controlling issues. Working with these women and watching God bring freedom to their lives fueled my passion and solidified my decision to become a certified life coach.
After finding out my values and being able to define my dreams and make them a reality, I seek to help others do the same! My passion is for everyone to live the abundant life God has for them.
Life coaching provides a space to truly explore the visions, goals and purposes God has put in your heart. The verse that has inspired me as a life coach is John 10:10… I have come that they may have life and have it more abundant.
Update: Now, as a new mom, these verses mean more to me then ever before. There is something about having a child that changes you. Your view will never quite be the same. I am here to help moms process what it means to bring a new life into the world. By processing the birth of our child/children we gain much of our strength and perspective we need for motherhood.
You don’t have to be overwhelmed, busy and stressed out!!! You can live a life full of joy, fulfillment and abundance!!!
